The stamping/texturing process

The process begins with excavation of the site and the placement of a compactable uniform substrate and construction grades are set to provide adequate drainage. We then place forms in the layout previously agreed upon. Once the layout is complete, it will then be presented to the principals for approval. After acceptance, double reinforcement will be placed and tied creating a system to protect the concrete from the freeze thaw cycles that occur in New England. PGS uses an integral color system for the design concrete phase. An integral color system states the color is poured into the hopper of the ready mix concrete truck, this allows for coloration to be evenly distributed top to bottom before the concrete is placed.

The concrete placement will consist of a stamped finish which utilizes integral color along with a dry release powder will be instituted. The chosen stamp pattern will be placed on the poured concrete surface with dry release powder, which acts as a color highlight as well as release agent to break the bond of the stamp and the concrete surface. Additionally, saw cuts will be used to relieve internal stress that is created during and after construction. The saw cut pattern will have aesthetic purpose as well as utility. The final step will be to apply a topical of high grade, high solids sealer; to protect the concrete from stains and fading due to ultraviolet exposure.

The stamps used to create an impression in the concrete are created using actual stones; therefore they mimic stones which are by nature imperfect. Since stamped concrete is a hand applied product, there will be a certain degree of imperfection in the end product. The use of flexible mats and a variety of tools will be utilized to enhance the chosen stamp pattern.

Stamped Concrete

Stamped concrete is a method that creates a truly unique and distinctive surface that realistically resembles the natural look of stone or brick. These natural looking patterns, colors and textures can be made to resemble brick, fieldstone, cobblestone and slate – to name a few. Many other patterns and textures are also available.

Newly placed concrete can include a wide array of colors available for stamped concrete. Certain colors are available through acid and pigment staining. The cost of stamped concrete is substantially less than other less durable surface materials and you are able to achieve an eye-catching, property enhancing appearance on walkways, patios, pool decks, driveways, walls, steps and interior surfaces through the use of a wide variety of patterns, textures and colors.

Stamped concrete duplicates nature’s texture with incredible realism.

Acid Stained Concrete

Acid stained concrete is a method of coloring existing or new concrete. Unlike paint, acid stains penetrate the surface and become a permanent part of the concrete, giving it the look and feel of natural stone. Acid staining produces a durable, dramatic, translucent, mottled and marble-like effect with subtle variations in color. It is these very features that when combined with surface imperfections in the concrete, produce unique and beautiful finishes that look naturally aged. Acid staining can be combined with stamping or texturing tools.
